The Varsity had two games this week. They followed up a loss versus an extremely talented Mars team on Tuesday with a gutsy win versus Central Valley on Thursday night. Despite running into a very hot goalie and being down 1-0 going into the 3rd period on Thursday, they hung in there and came away with a 2-1 victory that was sparked by two goals from Freshman Joe Testa to improve there overall record to 4 wins and 1 loss.

The Freshman team played a tough Canon Mac team on Monday night but hung in there until the end, ultimately losing the game 4-2. The Freshman are playing against schools that have much larger enrollment that South Fayette and they are doing a great job of competing and developing. The future of SF Hockey looks bright with these kids!

The Developmental teams are starting to schedule their games now and should begin their season shortly. Developmental 1 had their first game on Sunday night and they tied Baldwin 1 at the Airport 1-1. The South Fayette goal was scored by Johnny ‘Trinks’ Trinkala and they got great goaltending from Bruce Hardman, who made a game saving save on a breakaway with less than a minute to go in the game.

Looking forward to seeing everyone at the Comedy Night Fundraiser tomorrow night!

Both the Varsity and Freshman teams played away games on Thursday night. The Freshman team played in Morgantown with many of their more experienced players missing and against a much older home team. They gave a valiant effort but lost the game. The Freshman are gaining valuable experience as they continue to play against much larger programs due to the PIHL rule of Freshman play geographic games as opposed to playing against schools that are similar in school district size as the Varsity does. This experience will pay off down the road as the kids continue to develop.

The Varsity played a road game at Beaver, also short-handed but gutted out a victory 4-2. They got a very strong game from Michael Coyne in goal and goals by Ryan Schultz (2), Conor Errey and Chad Errey who also each had an assist. Evan Lestini pitched in with two assists as well as the Varsity improved to 3-0 on the season and matchup with a tough Mars team in their next game.
